Nick Vaugh's Twitter Crusade Against Addie Russell

Nick Vaugh, a candidate for New York State Assembly's 118th district, has taken to twitter to get his message out. And with a quick glance of his twitter page (@NickVaugh) it is clear that he is positioning himself to be the anti-Addie Russell vote. Heck, I would argue that the kid shouldn't run as a Republican. He should start his new party, the "Anti-Addie Party."

Upon review of Vaugh's twitter account almost all you can see is a blitz of charges against Addie Russell and company: corruption here and incompetence charges there, harassment regarding the soda taxes, upset about big state budgets, sportsmen are under Addie's thumb, she made cuts to local library funding, was against STAR rebates and wasn't there for us on education funding. The anti-Addie crusade goes on and on. But does anyone else see this kind of behavior juvenile? Is it going too far to write 37 negative tweets against a single candidate in under 4 months?

Then there is this post regarding the NY-23 race last year dated October 21, 2009:

Here in the 23rd we have three pitiful candidates

It's one thing to say you don't prefer a candidate and quite another to call all three candidates in a race "pitiful." It makes you wonder why Vaugh was against Scozzafava, Hoffman, and Owens. Where does he fall in the political spectrum? And what were the reasons for his acute disdain for each of these politicians? Are they too conservative, too moderate, or too liberal? Or is Vaugh just against any politician that isn't named Vaugh? His cluster of comments against Aubertine and Russell make him look like an obsessive maniac looking for any reason he can to get a political edge, not a fighter for real reform willing to work across the aisle to get things done. I sure would love to interview Vaugh so if anyone has his e-mail please send it over to whatsupny23@gmail.com.

Below are you'll find a collection of Nick Vaugh's anxious tweets on how Addie Russell is tearing our state apart:

  1. Nick Vaugh is smart and able, but too immature to be an assemblyman. He can't even make time to attend all of the city council meetings. Ask Matt Flynn Sr. how many Vaugh has skipped in the past year.

  2. I find it a bit hypocritcal for Flynn Sr to critize Vaugh for being too young when he's trying to get his son elected to the county legislature.

Nick Vaugh is an admirable young man who has tackled tough issues that few his age are even thinking about. Is he ready to be a member of the NYS Assembly at 22 years old is probably the wrong question. The question should be how could he improve the politics of Albany at 22? Can he make a difference for the River District?

  3. I love how What'sUpNNY23 talks about being "negative" but really Wha'tUpNNY23 is an expert on such things.

  4. 10:26 - Take a class for kids who can't read good. Flynn Sr. isn't criticizing Vaugh for being too young. He criticized him for skipping meetings!

  5. 1100 - like he's the only person to ever skip a city council meeting. Sheesh, everybody is a critic.

  6. I'm not interested in how many meetings he skipped as a City Council Member. I'm interested to know why so many crazy rants on Addie Russell. It sounds like he is taking his talking points straight from the Republican Assembly Committee without even giving them a second thought. Why would you be against big deficits and closing libraries at the same time? It's one or the other. He is against Addie's big tax and spend policies, but then he criticizes her for not spending more on some things. What is the point?

  7. 11:00 - perhaps you should take a class on proper english. It should be "take a class for kids who can't read WELL"

  10. Russell does act like another entitled politician and probrably should be voted out, however, I am not sure a college kid would be a suitable replacement, though he would have a hard time doing worse job then she

  12. Nick Vaugh clearly has too much time on his hands. Oh wait - not enough time to attend the Ogdensburg City Council meetings thathe was elected by the people and paid to attend!

And this jerk thinks the people will elect him to represent them in Albany? If he can't find his way from Clarkson to Ogdensburg, what would happen when he actually had to go to Albany and then travel the district including that far away place called Jefferson County.

A legend in his own mind - that's Mr. Vaugh!

  14. Mr. Vaugh has way to many skeletins in the closet...it would be a favor for Russel is Vaugh was her opponent...Ask Chuck Kelly about the only letter to the editor he has held regarding Mr. Vaugh's activities

  16. Mr. Vaugh is a fraud.. Look at his own record on voting for taxes, cutting programs, missing meetings is only small part.. Favors water meters another cost to Ogd taxpayers. I agree with the comment above a ledgend in his own mind. Likes to pose for camera and jump on any bandwagon he can.. Calling DeDe pitiful will come back to haunt him. Whats scary is he believes it.

  17. Gee whiz why wouldn't you monitor water usage??? Just because Oburg has never done it is ignorant.

Yes, I believe that water meters were the right decision. However, I would argue Vaugh is simply not interested in Ogdensburg politics or the well being of the city. He wants to further his own career. When running he simply fooled former classmates into voting for him, when the classmates have never voted before and in my opinion made poor uneducated decisions. I suppose that happens to a lot of voters, I just wish people would realize how much effect voting has and urge them to read all sides.
